Ter Stegen Could Make Surprise Barcelona Comeback Despite Serious Injury
In September, Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen had a distressing incident when he was stretchered off the pitch after falling awkwardly during his team’s 5-1 victory over Villarreal, resulting in a torn tendon in his knee.
He was originally due to miss the whole season, but things could be different.
According to Sport, Ter Stegen is receiving stem cell treatment, a method that has shown considerable success in many cases and is known to accelerate the healing of injuries. There is a sense of cautious optimism within Barcelona that the goalkeeper may be able to return to action later in the current season.
According to the Spanish outlet, the club believes that Ter Stegen could even be available as early as April. However, his return would only take place if those in charge were 100% sure that a similar injury would not happen again.
Iñaki Peña is currently the starting goalkeeper for the Catalan side.
Additionally, the club has signed Wojciech Szczęsny on a short-term contract, persuading him to come out of retirement following the injury to the German goalkeeper.
However, the former Juventus goalkeeper has yet to make a start in his new jersey.
