Thomas Partey Faces Rape And Sexual Assault Charges Following Arsenal Exit
Former Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, has been charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault by the Metropolitan Police Service.
Two of the counts of rape relate to one woman, three to a second woman, and the one count of sexual assault relates to a third woman.
They are reported to have taken place between 2021 and 2022, and he will now appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5th.
“The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police Service to charge a man after a file of evidence was submitted by detectives,” the statement read.
“The Met has issued a charge and requisition to Thomas Partey, 32 (13/06/1992), of Hertfordshire, in connection with the following offences: Five counts of rape, One count of sexual assault.”
Partey established himself as the key defensive midfielder under Arteta, making 33 appearances during the 2023 season as Arsenal finished second to Manchester City in the Premier League.
The following season, his appearances dropped to just 14, partly due to a hamstring injury, and overall his time at the club was marred by injuries.
However, he largely overcame these setbacks in his final season, playing 52 matches across all competitions as Arsenal again finished second in the league, this time behind Liverpool.
That season also saw the team reach the semi-finals of both the Carabao Cup and the Champions League.
For Ghana, Partey has earned 53 caps and scored 15 goals.
Partey had just left Arsenal at the start of the month after his contract with the club expired.
