Cesc Fabregas, the co-owner and assistant manager of Como, is said to be eager to bring in Alfie Gilchrist, a centre-back from Chelsea, during the summer transfer window.

The Athletic reports that Como is looking into acquiring Gilchrist on a loan agreement.

The Italian team will face off against Preston North End, another club vying for Gilchrist’s signature, as he is 20 years old.

Gilchrist made his debut with Chelsea’s first team in the 2023-24 season.

He appeared in five out of his 17 games for the team, scoring one goal.

At the same time, Fabregas, who previously played for Chelsea as a midfielder, might be able to use his connections to convince Gilchrist to join Como.

Marseille Agrees Deal For Roberto De Zerbi To Become New Head Coach

Meanwhile, Marseille have reached an agreement in principle with Roberto De Zerbi to take over as head coach, the Ligue 1 club said on Monday.

At the end of last season, De Zerbi departed Brighton following a successful two-year tenure, marked by their highest Premier League finish of sixth place and their first qualification for European competition.

In a statement, Marseille said they were “working with all parties involved to formalize the arrival of the Italian coach and his staff on the OM bench and to prepare for his arrival in Marseille in the coming days.”

Before joining Brighton, De Zerbi was rumoured to be in the running for various Premier League positions, such as at Manchester United and Liverpool. His previous managerial roles also included time at Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine and Sassuolo in Italy.
