UCL Roundup: Bodø/Glimt Stun Inter as Atlético and Leverkusen Seal Last-16 Spots
The Champions League delivered another unforgettable night of football drama, defined by an astonishing upset at the San Siro, a statement hat-trick in Madrid, and a tense defensive masterclass in Leverkusen.
Bodø/Glimt’s Historic Triumph at San Siro
In what will go down as one of the greatest results in their history, Bodø/Glimt eliminated last season’s Champions League finalists Inter with a stunning 2–1 victory in Italy, completing a sensational 5–2 aggregate triumph.
Despite long spells under pressure, the Norwegian side stuck to their discipline and took their moment brilliantly in the 58th minute.
Ole Didrik Blomberg pounced on a loose ball near the box and forced a save from Yann Sommer, but Jens Petter Hauge reacted fastest to guide the rebound home.
The shock grew even larger in the 72nd minute when Håkon Evjen stroked a composed right-footed finish into the far corner, effectively sealing Inter’s fate. A late header from Alessandro Bastoni offered the hosts a brief hope, but the damage was done.
Bodø/Glimt march into the last 16 an achievement few could have predicted at the start of the campaign.
Sørloth’s Hat-Trick Lifts Atlético Past Club Brugge
In the Spanish capital, Atlético Madrid overcame a spirited effort from Club Brugge to win 4–1 on the night and 7–4 on aggregate.
While the final scoreline looked comfortable, the Belgians once again pushed Atlético to their limits across both legs.
The star of the evening was undoubtedly Alexander Sørloth, whose hat-trick proved decisive. He opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, only for Brugge’s Joel Ordóñez to equalize 13 minutes later.
Early in the second half, Atlético regained control through Johnny Cardoso, whose well-taken strike restored the hosts’ lead in the tie.
Brugge fought admirably but eventually succumbed, with Sørloth netting twice late on to complete his treble and extinguish any remaining doubt.
With the win, Diego Simeone’s men advance to face either Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur in what promises to be an explosive round-of-16 matchup.
Leverkusen Hold Their Nerve to Progress
German champions Bayer Leverkusen needed resilience and defensive focus to protect their 2–0 first-leg lead against Olympiakos and a hard-earned 0–0 draw at home proved enough to see them through.
The visitors applied late pressure, but Leverkusen buoyed by last week’s double from Patrik Schick stood firm to secure their place in the last 16.
Their next challenge will be determined on Friday, when the draw will reveal whether they face Bayern Munich or Arsenal.
