Vinicius Jr Apologizes To Madridistas For Emotional Outburst During El Clásico
Real Madrid winger, Vinicius Jr, has apologised publicly for his angry reaction to being substituted during Sunday’s fiery 2-1 El Clásico win over Barcelona.
The Brazilian stormed straight to the dressing room after being replaced in the 71st minute by Rodrygo.
His frustration came despite playing a major role in the winning goal and causing constant problems for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde.
Vinicius Jr expressed his frustration to manager Xabi Alonso before heading straight to the dressing room, dampening the mood after Real Madrid ended a four-game losing streak against Barcelona.
The incident overshadowed what should have been a celebratory night for Los Blancos.
Although Vinicius said he had apologised to his teammates and club president Florentino Pérez, he notably made no mention of Alonso in his statement.
”Today I want to apologise to all Real Madrid fans for my reaction when I was substituted in El Clásico,” Vinicius said via his social media accounts.
”As I have already done in person during today’s training session, I also want to apologise again to my teammates, the club, and the president.”
The 25-year-old attributed his outburst to his competitive drive, explaining, “Sometimes my passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive nature stems from the love I feel for this club and everything it represents.”
Vinicius Jr’s relationship with Xabi Alonso has been strained since the Spaniard took charge in May, with the winger frequently substituted despite showing strong chemistry with Kylian Mbappé in attack.
His involvement in Sunday’s tense clash didn’t end with his substitution.
However, he returned to the touchline just before the final whistle, after Pedri’s red card sparked a scuffle, and had to be escorted away as he clashed verbally with Barcelona players.
Real currently leads the LaLiga standings with 27 points, which puts them five points clear of second-place Barcelona.
