We Must Reward Our Loyal Fans By Winning FA Cup – Says Erik Ten Hag
Erik Ten Hag says Manchester United must “do everything” to reward the loyalty of the “best fans in the world” by winning the FA Cup following their worst finish to a Premier League season.
Even though United secured a 2-0 victory at Brighton on the final day of the campaign, they only managed to secure eighth, which marked their worst season-ending position since they finished 13th under the management of Alex Ferguson in 1990.
United’s chances of qualifying for Europe next season hinge on their ability to defeat Manchester City in the upcoming FA Cup final.
The outcome at Wembley could significantly impact whether the Dutchman retains his position following a challenging season at Old Trafford.
Manchester United will be motivated to stop their local rivals City from achieving another domestic double, as Pep Guardiola’s team secured a historic fourth consecutive English title on Sunday.
However, even if United triumphs in the FA Cup, it cannot overshadow the disappointment of a league campaign where the 20-time champions endured 14 defeats and ended with a negative goal difference.
Manchester United manager, Ten Hag, expressed his gratitude to the club’s supporters for their unwavering support, as late goals from Diogo Dalot and substitute Rasmus Hojlund sealed a victory that marked Roberto De Zerbi’s final match as Brighton boss with a defeat.
“We have the best fans in the world and I mean this,” said Ten Hag, whose squad has been blighted by injuries this season. I have never had this experience when you have a season like us, which is by far not good enough, that the supporters are with us.”
The 54-year-old added, “They are with us in the bad season, and in bad times they are there. I think also they know why the bad times are there. But we have to pay them back and we have to do everything to give them a trophy next week – but also for the future, we have to perform better.”
