Wesley Sneijder Backs Arne Slot Amid Liverpool’s Premier League Struggles
Former Ajax and Inter Milan star Wesley Sneijder has shared his thoughts on Liverpool manager Arne Slot, warning that he must adapt quickly or risk failure this season.
Liverpool’s struggles continued with a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend. The reigning Premier League champions now sit eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who remain on course for their first league title since 2003 despite a 2-2 draw with Sunderland.
After losses to Galatasaray, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace, Slot’s side bounced back against Frankfurt, Aston Villa, and Real Madrid.
After facing significant criticism, supporters returned to backing Slot as the side kept two consecutive clean sheets, signaling a resurgence.
However, their defeat to City has cooled the enthusiasm, with many fans turning skeptical of the Dutchman and believing he could be dismissed if results fail to improve.
Now, speaking to AdventureGamers.com, Wesley Sneijder thinks the criticism is unjust and that Slot should be given time to turn the tide.
“It’s funny. A couple of months ago, he was the king of Liverpool. He was the coach to make you forget about all the previous coaches, even Jurgen Klopp,” Sneijder said.
”After four weeks, they are saying he wants to turn Liverpool into Feyenoord; he’s not winning games in the last minute anymore. He’s out of luck.
“Come on. Stop this. He’s still a great coach. What he did there was amazing in the first season. He has needed to adapt as well, and he adapted very quickly and brought his own style to the club and to the team.”
Liverpool suffered their fifth defeat in 11 Premier League matches, with goals from Erling Haaland, Nico González, and Jérémy Doku pushing the club back to eighth.
As the international break arrives, Slot must find a solution and adapt, as Sneijder suggests, or risk his title hopes fading away.
