Who Is Etta Eyong, Levante’s Fast-Rising Star, Wanted By Barcelona And Man United?
Etta Eyong has quickly become one of the most talked-about talents in Spanish football.
His summer move from Villarreal to Levante came as a surprise given the Cameroonian’s impressive potential. Both clubs reportedly included a clause allowing them to benefit financially from a future transfer if his strong form continues.
Despite scoring 19 goals for Villarreal’s reserve side last season and already scoring once in LaLiga this term, Villarreal decided to let him go.
They gambled on the million-dollar signing of Mikautadze and sold Eyong, surprising many.
Now it has emerged that Levante paid just 3.8 million euros for the African striker on 1 September.
The club’s economic viability plan to shareholders describes the fee for a player who is already a starter for his national team and has four goals in five La Liga appearances for Levante, plus one assist, as derisory.
Etta Eyong’s value has risen to €20 million, according to Transfermarkt. His profile has drawn interest from European giants Barcelona and Manchester City.
Complex contract between structure Levante and Villarreal
However, there is a catch to the deal Levante completed just six weeks ago. If an offer exceeding €15 million arrives, Levante will be required to sell the player and hand 20% of the profit from that transfer to Villarreal.
If the offer is rejected, the Valencians would have to compensate Villarreal with the same capital gain.
Villarreal also holds a right of first refusal to match any offer received next summer and to repurchase the player.
The termination clause is set at €30 million, a bargain considering Etta Eyong’s on-field performance.
