Yankuba Minteh Joins Brighton From Newcastle
Brighton & Hove Albion said on Sunday they have agreed a five-year deal to sign Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United.
Minteh joins the team following a productive loan spell at Feyenoord, who finished as runners-up in Eredivisie. During his time there, he featured in 37 matches across all competitions and netted 10 in the league.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but media reports put the transfer fee at 30 million pounds ($37 million).
“Yankuba is a young talent who has attracted a lot of interest and we’re delighted to welcome him to the club,” Brighton technical director David Weir said in a statement.
Speaking to Brighton’s official website about his arrival, Minteh said: “I’m feeling really happy about the move. Feyenoord was a great experience for me. Everybody loved me, the coaching staff, and the players it was like a family.
“But Brighton is a club which I have watched in the Premier League. It’s a good club for young players and the way the young players have progressed here is important for me.
“I think it’s a great thing to move to [another] Premier League club. Although I didn’t play any games for Newcastle, look where I am now! I have the chance at Brighton in the Premier League.”
“The Premier League back home in Gambia is huge,” Minteh added. “It’s the thing everybody talks about, and everybody watches. I would say the whole country is happy for me and they have been supporting me since I played in Denmark.
“Playing for my country was always a thing which I was dreaming about since I was young, so I’m very happy to represent my country.”
Minteh joined the Danish club Odense BK in 2022 before signing with Newcastle in 2023, subsequently being loaned to Feyenoord. He has played seven international matches for Gambia, scoring three goals.
