Al-Hilal Mulls Deregistering Neymar As Saudi Pro League Targets More European Signings In January
Al-Hilal is reportedly considering deregistering Neymar for the current season following a knee injury, making room for additional European signings in January.
The forward sustained a serious knee injury during a World Cup qualifying match against Uruguay, leading to surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus.
Neymar is anticipated to be sidelined until at least the end of the season. In accordance with Saudi Pro League (SPL) rules limiting non-Saudi players to eight per squad, Al-Hilal is contemplating this move to accommodate another foreign player.
The team’s current overseas roster, excluding Neymar, includes Yassine Bounou, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Aleksandar Mitrovic, and Brazilian duo Malcolm and Michael.
Manager Jorge Jesus aims to reinforce the team with a foreign left-back, driving the decision to deregister Neymar. The move aligns with SPL regulations, and Neymar is expected to return when fit for the 2024-25 season.
Despite injury setbacks, Neymar has had a mixed performance in the Middle East, contributing one goal in five games. Al-Hilal currently leads the SPL standings and is set to resume action against fourth-placed Al-Taawon on Friday.
