Angel Di Maria’s Family Threatened By` Drug Gangs In Hometown Over His Rosario Return
Argentine forward Angel Di Maria recently received a threatening message at his family home in Rosario, adding to the threat of drug-related violence overrunning the city where football greatest ever Lionel Messi also came from. The incident occurred early Monday morning, with local media reporting on the threatening message left for Di Maria’s family.
According to reports, a car delivered a sign addressed to the Di Maria family, warning them about their safety should Angel Di Maria decide to return to his hometown to end his career at Rosario Central. The threatening message, as cited by news portal Infobae & attributed to police sources, conveyed a stark message of violence & intimidation: “Tell your son Angel not to come back to Rosario because we will kill a family member. Not even Pullaro is going to save you. We don’t leave paper notes. We leave bullets & dead people behind.”
Rosario, known for its status as one of the world’s largest agro-port hubs, has witnessed a growth in violence perpetrated by drug trafficking groups. Experts suggest that the city’s strategic location makes it a potential hub for illegal drug trade to other countries, contributing to the escalation of criminal activities and threats in the region.
This incident is not the first, as it follows a previous threat made against Lionel Messi last year, where unidentified gunmen targeted a supermarket owned by Messi’s wife’s family. The Argentine government has taken note of the escalating situation& announced plans to introduce a bill in Congress allowing the armed forces to intervene in internal security operations to combat drug trafficking & crime in Rosario.
