Arsenal Faces Saliba Injury Setback With Key Update Before Man City Clash
Arsenal have reportedly received an update on William Saliba’s injury after they clash with Liverpool, indicating how long the defender is expected to be sidelined.
The France international was substituted just five minutes into the Gunners’ 1-0 loss to Liverpool after twisting his ankle in the warm-up. Initially starting the match, Saliba was forced off and replaced by Cristhian Mosquera.
“He twisted his ankle during the warm-up, and he came in and he said he believed that he could carry on and play but he strayed away in the first two actions,” Arteta said.
Asked if he was worried about Saliba’s injury, the Spaniard added, “I am because you cannot play a game of that stature. After you try, that means that there is something wrong.”
The centre-back went off with what appeared to be an ankle injury, and now isn’t expected to return for three to four weeks, according to L’Equipe.
France manager, Didier Deschamps recalled Benjamin Pavard to replace Saliba and is unlikely to bring the Arsenal defender back for the October internationals.
Mikel Arteta is now likely to be without Saliba for Arsenal’s Premier League clashes against Nottingham Forest and Manchester City later in the month.
