Barcelona’s Xavi Upset By Team’s Missed Opportunities In Valencia Draw
Barcelona’s manager, Xavi Hernandez, expressed frustration with his team’s inability to convert opportunities into goals following their 1-1 draw against Valencia.
The Blaugrana, after suffering defeats in their previous two outings, aimed to bounce back against Valencia in La Liga after a 3-2 loss to Antwerp in the UEFA Champions League and a 4-2 setback against Girona in the league.
Xavi lamented his team’s finishing, highlighting their struggles in recent weeks.
“We deserved to win; we did everything. But what we’ve been experiencing in terms of finishing in the past weeks repeated itself in this match,” he voiced, emphasizing the recurring theme of inefficiency.
“This game pretty much reflects our season. We work on finishing, but it ultimately relies on the players’ confidence. We find ourselves among the worst finishing teams in Europe, and that’s deeply frustrating for me today.”
Despite registering 16 shots, with eight on target against Valencia, Barcelona failed to secure the win, compared to their opponent’s four shots, with only 11 attempts. Across their last three games in all competitions, Barcelona amassed 58 shots, 22 of which were on target, resulting in a mere five goals. OptaJose’s statistics reveal Barcelona as the team with the most significant number of big chances missed (41) among Europe’s top five leagues.
Xavi’s position at the helm is now under intense scrutiny, especially considering that a Girona victory on December 18 against Alaves would push Barcelona nine points adrift from the league leaders. Barcelona’s upcoming fixture against bottom-placed Almeria on December 20 presents an opportunity for redemption as they strive to regain their winning momentum.
With pressure mounting and critical games ahead, Barcelona aims to rectify their finishing woes and reignite their pursuit of success under Xavi’s leadership.
