Bologna Appoints Vincenzo Italiano As New Manager
On Wednesday, Serie A club Bologna, announced the appointment of former Fiorentina coach, Vincenzo Italiano, as their new manager, succeeding Thiago Motta.
Following his recent resignation as Fiorentina boss after the team’s final game of the season, Italiano has signed a two-year contract with Bologna, replacing Thiago Motta, who opted not to renew his contract at the end of the season.
In 2021, Italiano joined Fiorentina after managing Spezia, where he successfully guided them to promotion to Serie A. During his first season in charge at Fiorentina, he brought the team back to European competition after a five-year absence and led them to three cup finals.
However, last season ended in further disappointment for Italiano’s side, as they suffered a defeat in the Europa Conference League final for the second consecutive season.
He will get his first taste of managing a team in the Champions League at Bologna, who finished fifth in Serie A under Motta to qualify for Europe’s most prestigious club competition for the first time.
According to Italian media reports, Thiago Motta is expected to assume the managerial role at Juventus following the sacking of Massimiliano Allegri.
