The African Player of the Year was originally organized by France Football, the same organization behind the Ballon d’Or. In 1992.
However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) took over the award, ushering in the modern era of the CAF Awards. The 2024 edition will be the 32nd occurrence of these prestigious awards since their inception.

CAF Awards Voting Process: An Overview
The CAF Awards voting process includes input from the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, national team coaches, captains, and club representatives. Each group casts weighted votes to ensure a fair outcome, celebrating African and global football achievements.
Fans also vote for the Goal of the Year, contributing 70% of the final score, while CAF Technical Experts provide the remaining 30%.

CAF further clarified that the awards would recognize performances from the period between January 2024 and October 2024.

Super Falcons’ Nnadozie made history by becoming the first goalkeeper nominated for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award. She aims to emulate her teammate Asisat Oshoala, a multiple-time winner of this prestigious accolade.
Meanwhile, the omission of Tabitha Chawinga has ignited discussions, as the Malawian forward was ranked 16th in this year’s Women’s Ballon d’Or.
