Chelsea captain, Reece James, is in hot water with the Football Association after being charged for his use of “insulting or abusive” language directed at a referee.

The incident unfolded following Sunday’s intense Premier League showdown against Aston Villa, a game that James couldn’t participate in due to injury.

The man in the middle, match official Jarred Gillett, found himself at the centre of James’s reece in the tunnel after Chelsea’s unfortunate loss, sealed by Ollie Watkin’s late goal.

The stakes are high for the Chelsea captain, as he faces the possibility of a suspension that could impact both his team and his own career.

In a sternly worded statement, the Football Association declared, “Reece James has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following Chelsea’s Premier League game against Aston Villa on Sunday, 24 September.”

It’s alleged that the defender used improper and/or insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official in the tunnel after the game.

Reece James has until Friday, 29 September, to provide a response to this charge.
