Less than a month after guiding Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final, Edin Terzic has departed the club, with the German club having accepted his resignation.

Having been associated with Borussia Dortmund since 2018 in different capacities, including three years in the youth system and assisting Slaven Bilic at Besiktas and West Ham United from 2013 to 2017.

Edin Terzic played a key role in the club’s journey to the Champions League final, where they were defeated by Real Madrid.

However, Terzic has now announced that his time with Dortmund has come to an end.

“Dear Borussia fans, even though it is hurting me right now, I would like to tell you that I will be leaving BVB today,” Terzic said in a statement. “It was a huge honor to be able to lead this great club to a DFB Cup victory and most recently to a Champions League final.”

“I asked those responsible for a meeting after our final at Wembley because after ten years at BVB, including five years on the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man on the sidelines.”

“Everyone who knows me knows that during this decision-making process of the past few weeks, two hearts have been beating in my chest. But even after intensive discussions, my basic feeling has not changed. I always wish Borussia Dortmund only the very best and don’t say goodbye, but see you again.”

Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke added: “Edin Terzic has done outstanding work during his time at BVB. We all owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Edin and I will always remain friends.”

Ending his two-year tenure as manager, Edin Terzic departs with an impressive record of 55 victories from 96 matches and contributing to Borussia Dortmund’s triumph in the 2020/21 DFB Cup.

Significantly, it is rumored that Terzic’s exit may significantly influence the future of center-back Mats Hummels.

The 35-year-old, whose contract expires this summer, reportedly indicated interest in discussing an extension only if Terzic exited the club, as per Sky Sports Germany.

Mats Hummels, who has previously raised concerns about Terzic’s tactics in public, now faces a decision regarding his future as his contract approaches expiration later this month.
