The memory of Kial Thurman, a well-known non-league player from Long Eaton, Derbyshire, who tragically lost his life in a car crash near Uttoxeter on December 1, will be honoured through two charity football matches.

Kial Thurman, 31, was not just a player; he was a passionate football enthusiast, having dedicated himself to numerous clubs. His sister, Chelsea Coleman, emphasized that organizing these matches was the ideal way to celebrate his life. The proceeds from these matches will support mental health charities, a cause close to Thurman’s heart.

One of the matches will feature a team comprising family members against close friends, while the other will include representatives from the teams Thurman had played for over the years.

According to Chelsea Coleman, the football matches were the most fitting tribute to Kial, as it resonated deeply with his unwavering love for the sport. She expressed the overwhelming response from numerous individuals eager to partake in these matches, demonstrating the profound impact Kial had on those around him.

“Watching and playing football together was our thing. His absence has left a void that feels surreal and empty,” said Ms. Coleman, reflecting on the bond they shared.

The outpouring of support has been immense, with messages flooding in from football clubs such as Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur—clubs that held significance for Kial—and other professional players. Chelsea Coleman highlighted the mental health struggles faced by Kial and his friends, especially during the challenging times brought about by the pandemic.
