‎‎Kevin De Bruyne is set to leave City after ten years, during which he won six Premier League titles. He also helped the team secure the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2023.

‎The 33-year-old Manchester City midfielder has indicated he is unlikely to play in the Club World Cup because of injury concerns ahead of his departure from the club.

‎The Belgian is under contract until June 30, which covers three Club World Cup matches in the United States, but De Bruyne said he would have to look out for his own interests.

‎”I think, in a way, I have to take care of myself because if I get injured in the Club World Cup, what am I going to do? Nobody’s going to take care of me at that point,” he said after the FA Cup final in quotes carried by The Athletic.

‎”So there’s a big chance probably that I won’t play it, but I don’t know. I’m just a player. I don’t make the rules, I can’t do anything about it.

‎”So in the end, like I said, I’ll probably have to take care of myself.”

‎FIFA has introduced a short-term transfer window due to the scheduling of the expanded Club World Cup, which now features 32 teams instead of seven.

‎This change allows players whose contracts expire on June 30 to transfer to clubs participating in the tournament. The adjustment aims to facilitate player movement ahead of the event.

‎It also allows players like De Bruyne to sign short-term deals purely to take part before moving on as free agents.

‎However, there is a risk that he could suffer a serious injury, which could jeopardize a potential future transfer.

‎If De Bruyne does not play in the Club World Cup, he will leave City without any further major trophies after Saturday’s FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace.

‎City also surrendered the Premier League title this season after winning an unprecedented four in a row.

‎”This year has just not gone the way we wanted it to. You have to accept it. You have to move on and work hard and go again,” De Bruyne said.

‎”It’s alright. This doesn’t change anything that’s happened in the past 10 years.” De Bruyne said he has yet to decide on his next move and whether he would look to join another Premier League team.
