Inter’s Inzaghi And Calhanoglu Receive One-Match Bans Over Ultras Involvement
Inter Milan coach, Simone Inzaghi, and midfielder, Hakan Calhanoglu have been handed one-match bans.
Additionally, both Inter and AC Milan have been fined for their connections with hardcore ‘ultra’ fans, the FIGC announced.
The sporting sanctions follow the arrest last September of 19 high-profile “ultras” tied to the two clubs, many of whom are suspected of having links with the ‘Ndrangheta mafia group.
As a result of the sanctions, Inzaghi will be absent from the bench, and Calhanoglu will be unavailable when Inter takes on Verona on Saturday.
Inter, the reigning champions, are currently second in Serie A, three points behind top-ranked Napoli. The club was fined €70,000 ($79,000), while AC Milan received a €30,000 fine.
The sanctions were imposed because of relations with unauthorized fan groups such as Inter’s “Curva Nord” and Milan’s “Curva Sud,” the FIGC said in its ruling.
According to Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, the punishments resulted from plea bargaining between those involved and the sporting authorities.
In addition to his one-match ban, Calhanoglu was fined €30,000, while Inzaghi received a €15,000 fine.
Javier Zanetti, who played for Inter for two decades and is now a vice-president of the club, was also among those punished, given a fine of 14,500 euros.
