Ivan Perisic Joins Dutch Champions PSV From Hajduk Split
PSV Eindhoven, the reigning champions of the Netherlands, announced on Wednesday the signing of Croatian international winger Ivan Perisic, who had been without a club since he left Hajduk Split in August.
In an official announcement, PSV confirmed that they have come to terms with Perisic, who was available on the market following the conclusion of his contract with the Croatian club.
Ivan Perisic left the Croatian club after Gennaro Gattuso, coach of Hadjuk Split, said publicly that the player had told him he wanted to leave.
The Croatian international signed a contract with PSV until June 2025.
“Ever since I became a free player, I was hoping for an option like this: a club and an environment that I liked and with which I could win trophies.
“(Denzel) Dumfries gave me advice and that only convinced me that PSV is the right move. I can’t wait to get started, give my all, and win trophies,” said Perisic, a 136-time Croatian international runner-up at the 2018 World Cup and bronze medallist at the World Cup 2022.
Perisic is not eligible for the Champions League
While Perisic will not be eligible to participate in the Champions League group stage, he can still provide valuable contributions to PSV in the Eredivisie. Head coach Peter Bosz has the option to use him both as a winger and as a left-back.
Director of Football Earnest Stewart opted not to travel to Turin for the Champions League match against Juventus, which resulted in a 3-1 loss, to expedite the deal for Perisic.
Perisic is viewed as a replacement for Hirving Lozano, who is set to join Diego FC next winter as the team makes its debut in the Major League.
The 29-year-old Mexican international, who has 70 caps, was signed from Napoli in the summer of 2023 for €15 million and is expected to bring in €12 million for the club.
