Juventus parted ways with coach Massimiliano Allegri, due to his conduct during and after this week’s Coppa Italia final, where he was dismissed, the Italian Serie A club announced on Friday.

On Wednesday, Juventus secured a 1-0 victory over Atalanta to Secure their 15th Coppa Italia title, extending their record and claiming their first trophy in three years. Allegri was dismissed late in the game for fierce protesting against refereeing decisions.

Following the match, Italian media reported that the Italian coach engaged in a clash with match officials, Juventus staff, and a newspaper director.

“Juventus announces that it has relieved Massimiliano Allegri of his position as head coach of the men’s first team,” the club said in a statement. “The dismissal follows certain behavior during and after the Coppa Italia final that the club deemed incompatible with the values of Juventus and the behavior that those who represent it should have.”

The Italian football federation is looking into the events during the Cup final.

“We can confirm that an investigation on (an) incident (that) happened during the Coppa Italia Final, in which Allegri and Tuttosport newspaper’s director Guido Vaciago were involved, is in due course amongst the FIGC’s Prosecutor Office,” FIGC said in a statement.

Allegri first took on the role of coach for the Turin club in 2014, overseeing the team for five seasons. After a two-year break from management, he returned in 2021.

During his first spell, Juventus secured five consecutive Serie A titles and four Italian Cups. Additionally, they were runners-up in the Champions League in both the 2014-15 and 2016-17 seasons.

Allegri’s second spell as the head coach was less prosperous and overshadowed by a financial controversy. Juventus faced a deduction of 10 points towards the conclusion of the 2022-23 season due to a case concerning their transfer activities.

Following their qualification for the Europa Conference League playoffs instead of the usual Champions League, Juventus was subsequently banned from all European competitions for violating UEFA’s Club Licensing and Financial Fair Play regulations.
