The notice reached the club’s headquarters in Paris last week. Mbappé, alleges that the club owes him in arrears of nearly €100 million ($106.8m) in wages and bonuses.
The French champions are yet to pay him his April, May, and June salaries, as well as his February bonus.
PSG believes that the player consented in August to forgo a portion of his owed payment to help lessen the financial implications of his departure when his contract ends in June.
However, there was no written and signed version of this agreement and this is at the heart of the dispute. PSG, who do not intend to respond to the formal notice, plan to act on what they believe was agreed.
Mbappé believes that PSG’s choice to limit his playing time between February and May, following his announcement of departure, nullified their agreement, and he demands full payment of the funds he claims are owed to him.
It is thought that it may be necessary for both parties to argue their case in front of a tribunal to achieve a resolution.
The France captain spent seven years in the French capital before joining Real Madrid as a free agent on June 3.
The conflict with his previous club played a role in his dissatisfaction with PSG, evidenced by his remarks on June 5.
Mbappé said certain people at PSG made him “unhappy” in his first news conference since completing his move on a free transfer to Real Madrid.
PSG felt he was being “ungrateful” in his comments and added that the club will not refund him €80 million in wages and bonuses to recoup the money for his departure.
