Bangladeshi-origin English professional footballer Hamza Choudhury has had his driving license revoked over alleged drunk driving.

According to reports, Choudhury, who currently plays as a defensive midfielder or right-back for EFL Championship club Leicester City, was implicated in a drink-driving incident, potentially resulting in the revocation of his driver’s license or substantial fines if proven guilty.

A police statement made available in the public domain on Wednesday said a driver was pulled over on Loughborough Road in West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, at around 01:45 GMT on Friday.

The authorities further revealed that an individual was apprehended for refusing to provide a breath sample, although the statement did not explicitly mention Hamza Choudhury.

However, UK reports alleged the Leicester City player was the one arrested for drink-driving.

In addition to defying a preliminary investigation, the 26-year-old was reportedly charged with reckless driving, as stated by the BBC.

Residing in Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, Choudhury was granted unconditional bail and is set to appear before Nottingham magistrates on February 23.

In spite of the ongoing police case, he was actively participating in the match between Leicester City and Ipswich Town in the Championship on the evening of Monday, January 23.

During his presence, Leicester City missed the opportunity to regain their 10-point lead at the top of the Championship, as Ipswich Town secured a 1-1 draw with a late goal.

After slightly over thirty minutes, an unfortunate own goal by Leif Davis had initially put the Foxes in a position to recover from their 3-1 defeat against Coventry last weekend.

However, with only 89 minutes remaining, Mads Hermansen made a narrow save from Massimo Luongo’s sinking shot, and Jeremy Sarmiento seized the moment to score the crucial equalizer.

Despite the final score being 1-1, Leicester City still maintains their lead in the Championship table with seven points, while Ipswich Town is just seven points behind them, having overtaken Southampton in third place by a single point.
