Liverpool And Man Utd Launch Program To Combat Tragedy Related Abuse
The Foundations of Manchester United & Liverpool have joined forces to deliver a crucial education program aimed at addressing tragedy-related abuse and advocating for its cessation. This initiative marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to combat such behaviour within the football community.
The recent gathering at Lord Derby School in Huyton brought together schoolchildren from Manchester and Liverpool for an enlightening session on the tragic histories of these great football clubs. Football legends Wes Brown & Phil Thompson, who have collectively amassed an impressive tally of 12 league titles & five European Cups, shared their insights on the profound impact of the Hillsborough & Munich disasters on both clubs, their supporters, & the respective cities.
John Shiels, CEO of Manchester United Foundation, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “It is unacceptable to use the loss of life, about any tragedy, to score points, & it is time for it to stop. We are proud to come together with the LFC Foundation as we believe education will break the generational cycle on this issue and help thousands of young people across this region understand the impact tragedy-related abuse has.”
Matt Parish, CEO of LFC Foundation, states these sentiments, emphasize the significance of education & decisive action in eradicating vile tragedy chanting. He expressed, “Our two proud Foundations are coming together to show young people and all others how we stand united against tragedy chanting a very powerful message.”
The joint statement issued by managers Erik ten Hag &Jurgen Klopp emphasizes the steadfast commitment of both clubs to combat tragedy-related abuse. They called for an end to chanting about Hillsborough, Heysel, & Munich, emphasizing the need for collective action to address this issue.
Andy Burnham, in his endorsement of the education program and campaign against tragedy chanting, & the importance of challenging such behavior wherever and whenever it occurs. He noted, “These two great clubs are united by the huge impact Munich and Hillsborough had on the clubs & the cities. We should remember that there is more that unites Liverpool and Manchester than divides us.”
The ongoing efforts of the two Foundations, in collaboration with the Premier League, aim to expand & institutionalize this educational program as an annual engagement with young people across the Merseyside regions & Greater Manchester. Their commitment to taking appropriate action against individuals engaging in tragedy-related abuse, both in stadiums & online.
