Roy Hodgson Returns To Bristol City As Interim Coach After Struber Exit
Former Liverpool and England manager Roy Hodgson has returned to Bristol City as interim head coach following the club’s decision to dismiss Gerhard Struber amid a six-match winless streak across all competitions.
The 76-year-old’s appointment marks a full-circle moment, as he first took charge of Bristol City back in 1982 his inaugural coaching role at an English club.
The 78-year-old, who was last in charge of Crystal Palace, led Inter Milan to the UEFA Cup final in 1996-97, and took Fulham to the Europa League final in 2009-10.
Bristol City remain 12 points clear of the Championship relegation zone with seven matches left, but the club has not tasted victory since last month.
Their poor run of form was compounded by an FA Cup exit at the hands of Port Vale, a League One side that handed them a disappointing defeat.
”Roy’s appointment is about more than the results of the next seven games. Over the remainder of the season, he will help us set the standards and values at the club that we will need to be successful going forward,” Bristol CEO Charlie Boss said in a statement.
Bristol City will look to reset their campaign when they return to action on April 3rd, facing Charlton Athletic in their next fixture.
