Liverpool Confirms Departing Players Ahead Of New Premier League Season

Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are among the top players who will depart Liverpool ahead of next season.

The Reds confirmed this in a submitted list to affirm its retained players following the end of the 2023-24 season.

Sportxparte reports that several senior and Academy players are leaving Anfield. Following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, the Reds are set to embark on a new era under Arne Slot.

As announced last month, “Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara are set to leave the Reds upon the expiry of their contracts this summer, following eight and four years respectively with the club,” Liverpool noted on its official website on Wednesday.

The club hailed Matip and Thiago’s contribution to success during their spell.

“Centree-back Matip surpassed 200 appearances on Merseyside, scoring 11 goals and claiming seven honours – including Champions League and Premier League glory.

Adam Lewis, an academy graduate, will say goodbye as his contract ends. He has been on loan with Newport County for the past two seasons.

He made his senior debut during LiverLiverpool’s victory against Shrewsbury Town at Anfield in February 2020, a milestone Liverpool recognized.

Melkamu Frauendorf is planning to leave the team this summer. The forward was a regular on the U18s and U21s teams and also played twice at the senior level over his four-year tenure with Liverpool.

“Fraundorf debuted under Jürgen Klopp as a substitute against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup in January 2022 and, later that year, started the Carabao Cup clash with Derby County at Anfield,” the statement added.

Mateusz Musialowski is set to start a new phase in his professional career following his debut with the senior Liverpool team as a substitute against Sparta Prague in March.

The Polish youth international joined the team in the summer of 2020 and has been a consistent player for the U18s and U21s teams over the last four years.

At the Academy level, players Nathan Giblin, Francis Gyimah, Luke Hewitson, Niall Osborne, and Cody Pennington are all expected to depart from the Reds once their contracts run out.

Meanwhile, the club has extended contract offers to the senior goalkeeper Adrian, who has appeared in 26 matches since his arrival in August 2019, as well as Academy defenders Jacob Poytress and Reece Trueman.
