Man City, Other Teams That Have Qualified For UCL Quarter-final After Wednesday Matches
The quarter-finalists for this year’s Champions League have been determined after the conclusion of the Round of 16 matches on Wednesday.
Manchester City secured their place by defeating FC Copenhagen 3-1 at the Etihad, with goals from Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez, and’ Erling Haaland.
They had previously won the first leg 3-1. Meanwhile, Real Madrid was held to a 1-1 draw by RB Leipzig at the Bernabeu but still qualified with a 2-1 aggregate.
Paris Saint-Germain and’ Bayern Munich had already secured their spots in the quarter-finals on Tuesday.
SportXparte reports that the Champions League Quarter Final Fixtures will be completed after next week’s games featuring, Arsenal vs Porto, Barcelona Vs Napoli, Dortmund vs PSV and Atletico Madrid vs Inter Milan.
Four victorious teams from the above will progress to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, following his team’s match yesterday, Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, commented that they are in direct competition with Real Madrid and’ Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Guardiola made this statement after a convincing 3-1 victory over FC Copenhagen in the second leg of the Round of 16.
With this win, City has secured their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament, boasting an impressive aggregate score of 6-2.
Addressing the media at the Etihad Stadium after the game, Guardiola took the opportunity to reflect on the outcome and’ contemplate their potential adversaries in the competition.
He told TNT Sports: “We are well respected for our openness. Before I arrived we didn’t believe we could do it. It’s a question of time, a process. They (hierarchy) gave me time, gave us time.
“We are a team that believes we can do it. Listen, we’re competing with Real Madrid and’ Bayern Munich. We don’t know who we are going to face. It’s a question of wait and’ see. The important thing is that seven years in a row we are here.”
