According to sources, Manchester City will reportedly seek a final decision from Pep Guardiola regarding his future by Christmas. Guardiola has one year remaining on his contract with the club.

Manchester City hopes that the 53-year-old manager will agree to a new contract extension following his remarkable achievements, which include securing 15 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, since joining the club in 2016. Guardiola’s close bond with the director of football Txiki Begiristain grants him the autonomy to determine the timing and manner of his departure.

Pep Guardiola is currently inclined towards leaving Manchester City following the expanded FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, and the club is aiming to receive a definitive decision from him by Christmas.

Manchester City is well aware of the significant challenge of finding a suitable replacement for Guardiola and seeks time to find a succession strategy and evaluate potential candidates.

After the 3-1 victory over West Ham, which secured a record fourth consecutive title, Guardiola has dropped hints suggesting that his tenure at City is nearing its conclusion, he admitted he is “closer to leaving than staying.”

He also said he is “tired” and suggested he is lacking motivation to prepare for another season in charge.

Manchester City anticipates that Guardiola will fulfill the final year of his contract, yet acknowledges the possibility of his departure in 2025.

Having served for four years at Barcelona and three years at Bayern Munich, Guardiola has surpassed his initial expectations regarding his tenure at the Etihad.

Although unlikely to seek another club management position, Guardiola harbors aspirations of coaching a national team during a prominent tournament.

The upcoming World Cup is set to be held in the United States in 2026. Guardiola last entered the final year of his contract with City during the summer of 2022. However, while on a break for the World Cup in Qatar, he extended his tenure by agreeing to a new two-year deal during a visit to Abu Dhabi.
