‎Bayer Leverkusen has signed Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken from Premier League club Brentford, the Bundesliga team announced on Tuesday.

‎According to German media reports, Leverkusen paid €10 million (£8.45 million) to sign the 31-year-old.

‎Flekken, who has signed a contract until 2028, is expected to replace current Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky.

‎Hradecky, who captained the team to their historic unbeaten league and cup double in the 2023/24 season, will likely make way for the new signing.

‎In a statement, Flekken said he was taking “another special step in my career,” adding that Leverkusen is “a top German club with high national and European goals.”

‎Leverkusen are expected to undergo a rebuild this off-season, with former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag having already replaced the Real Madrid-bound Xabi Alonso as coach.

‎Centre-back Jonathan Tah has signed a free transfer with German champions Bayern Munich.

‎Meanwhile, midfielder Florian Wirtz is in negotiations to join winger Jeremie Frimpong at Premier League winners Liverpool. The Dutch goalkeeper has Bundesliga experience, having spent five years at Freiburg before transferring to Brentford in 2023.

‎He’s been replaced at Brentford by Caoimhim Kelleher, who has left Liverpool in a deal worth an initial 12.5 million pounds.
