Revered Portuguese football manager, Jose Mourinho, has established a new benchmark with his first player signing as the manager of Fenerbahce.

It could be recalled that the former head coach of Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan assumed leadership of the Turkish Super Lig’s runners-up in June, following the conclusion of the Champions League final.

He has promptly initiated assembling a new team, with notable signings including Cenk Tosun, a former Everton striker who joined on a free transfer, and Allan Saint-Maximin, who came on loan from Al Ahli.

However, his most recent acquisition has eclipsed all previous records in Turkish football for transfer fees.

The player in question is Youssef En-Nesyri, a former Sevilla star who has been in discussions with several Premier League clubs for several years.

En-Nesyri has opted for Fenerbahce despite these offers, committing to a five-year contract for an estimated £20 million.

En-Nesyri was identified as Mourinho’s top choice, with the player set to receive approximately €4 million annually.

Upon joining the club, his primary objective is to assist in securing a spot in the Champions League. They will face Swiss club Lugano in the second leg of their second qualifying round, following a 4-3 victory away from home in the first leg.

Fenerbahce will need to secure victories in two additional knockout round matches to advance to the Champions League, which will feature a revamped format this season.

An official Fenerbahce statement confirmed the transfer: “Our club agreed with Youssef En-Nesyri and his club Sevilla FC for the transfer.

“The Moroccan striker signed a contract binding him to the yellow-dark blue colours for five years.

“To Youssef En-Nesyri, welcome to the world’s greatest sports club, Fenerbahce. We wish you many more championships in the light of our coat of arms.”

The 26-year-old in question has reportedly received interest from Mourinho’s former club, Roma. However, after careful consideration, they have opted to join the Turkish Super Lig, aiming to lead Galatasaray to the top position in the league standings for the forthcoming season.
