Nigeria And Egypt To Face Off In Cairo Ahead Of The Africa Cup Of Nations
Nigeria will face Egypt in a highly anticipated international friendly ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Egyptian Football Association confirmed that the match will take place at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, December 14.
The encounter will serve as a key preparation for both nations before the tournament kicks off in Morocco on December 21.
Beyond the hype for bragging rights, the Super Eagles and the Pharaohs will use the encounter to assess their squads, refine tactics, and build momentum ahead of the African showpiece.
Nigeria is scheduled to open camp on December 10, with head coach Eric Chelle set to continue fine-tuning his squad ahead of AFCON 2025.
Chelle may also arrange additional friendly matches as part of the team’s final preparations for the tournament.
Before then, the three-time African champions will aim to secure a place in the Inter-confederation World Cup play-offs with crucial wins over Gabon and either Cameroon or DR Congo in November.
On the other hand, seven-time African champions Egypt will intensify their preparations next month with a four-nation invitational tournament in Dubai, featuring Uzbekistan, Iran, and Cape Verde.
Nigeria has been placed in Group C alongside Uganda, Tunisia, and Tanzania for the Africa Cup of Nations, while Egypt is drawn into Group B with South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe.
The nations last faced each other on January 11, 2022, in an Africa Cup of Nations match.
Nigeria won 1-0, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the decisive goal in the 30th minute at Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua, Cameroon.
