Real Madrid Completes Signing Of Spanish Full-Back Álvaro Carreras From Benfica
Spanish left-back Álvaro Carreras has officially joined Real Madrid from Benfica, the club confirmed on Monday.
This transfer brings an end to one of the summer’s longest-running transfer sagas.
Real Madrid will pay its €50 million release clause in installments. Carreras will compete with Fran García for a place in the starting eleven.
On Friday, Benfica announced the arrival of Rafael Obrador, signed from Real Madrid for around five million euros in a separate deal.
The 22-year-old Carreras had a contract with the Eagles until 2029. The defender is valued at 34.3 million euros by Flashscore and last season played 52 games for the Portuguese league runners-up.
His arrival provides another boost to Xabi Alonso’s project. It marks a remarkable turnaround in Carrera’s career at Madrid, following his initial stint in their academy from 2017 to 2020, before Manchester United missed out on signing him.
However, Madrid is also making a substantial investment in a player who departed for free while still part of their academy.
Carreras will be presented tomorrow at noon at Ciudad Real Madrid. Florentino Pérez, the club president, will meet with him to sign his six-season contract.
A press conference will also be held at the same venue.
