Tuchel Sympathizes With Ten Hag, Points To Man United’s Struggles Post-Exit
Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel, has expressed empathy for Manchester United’s Erik ten Hag following the Red Devils’ departure from the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Tuchel acknowledged the challenges faced by Ten Hag, particularly due to the absence of crucial United players during their 1-0 defeat against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford.
Highlighting the issues within the United squad, the former Chelsea coach pinpointed deficiencies in ‘quality, personality, and width’ among the team members. Kingsley Coman’s goal in the second half secured the win for Bayern Munich, who dominated Group A, finishing eight points ahead of second-placed FC Copenhagen.
United’s key players, including Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, and Mason Mount, were notably absent in the clash against Bayern.
When asked about his feelings toward Ten Hag’s plight after United’s Champions League exit, Tuchel expressed his usual sympathy for an opposing coach.
He stated during the post-match press conference, “Almost always I feel sympathy for the other coach. This is why we are here and what high-level sports entail. We compete at the highest level to win our matches.”
Acknowledging the challenges faced by Ten Hag due to injuries, Tuchel remarked, “Of course, I have sympathy. I think he has a lot of key players injured for a decisive match now, and you can see that they lack this kind of personality, quality, and perhaps the depth to impact games from the bench.”
While acknowledging the tough times for Ten Hag, Tuchel expressed confidence in the United manager’s abilities to navigate through these challenges.
