Tudor Begins Juventus Reign With Hard-Fought Win Over Genoa
Juventus marked the beginning of Igor Tudor’s reign as head coach with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Genoa at the Allianz Stadium.
Winning Start
Tudor’s arrival came at a pivotal moment for Juventus, who had endured two devastating defeats before the international break, each exceeding three goals against them.
There was an air of urgency to turn their fortunes around, and the home crowd sensed this from the first whistle. The Bianconeri’s determination was visible, highlighted by a remarkable unbeaten streak that extends to 16 matches against teams positioned in the bottom half of the Serie A table.
Early Chances
As the match commenced, Juventus wasted no time asserting their dominance.
One of the standout moments came when Kenan Yıldız, the young and talented Turkish winger, delivered a powerful header that seemed destined for the back of the net, only to be thwarted by a superb line block from Genoa’s Stefano Sabelli.
Despite the threat posed by Juve’s attacking players, Genoa, under manager Patrick Vieira, exhibited a commendable defensive organization, absorbing pressure and looking to strike on the counter.
However, it was Yıldız’s brilliance that broke the deadlock in the 25th minute. Picking the ball up on the inside right, he gracefully maneuvered past Koni De Winter before unleashing a powerful shot into the corner of the net.
Defensive Setbacks
Despite the early joy, Tudor’s debut was soured by the unexpected injury of center-back Federico Gatti immediately after Juve’s goal.
Both sides struggled to create clear-cut opportunities, although Dušan Vlahović came close with a long-range strike that required a comfortable save from Genoa’s goalkeeper, Nicola Leali.
As the second half unfolded, Genoa began to find their rhythm, with striker Andrea Pinamonti coming close to equalizing with a volley that drifted agonizingly wide from Sabelli’s cross.
Narrow Victory
As the match approached its end, Juve looked to secure their lead with several attempts to extend the scoreline. Pierre Kalulu nearly sealed the game with a powerful header, but Leali was on high alert, producing a fantastic save that kept Genoa in the fight.
Manuel Locatelli also threatened with a vicious long-range effort that was denied by Leali’s sharp reflexes, proving to be a standout performer for the visitors.
As the clock wound down, Juventus maintained their intent to secure a cushion, but they were unable to capitalize on late chances from Renato Veiga and Timothy Weah.
Juventus remain just a point adrift of the top four thanks to a third successive clean sheet against their guests, while Genoa’s winless away run in 2025 stretched to seven matches.
