We Will Replace Mbappe With Five To Six New Signings – Says Luis Enrique
After securing the French Cup victory, manager Luis Enrique emphasized the importance of Paris St Germain’s squad and their new summer signings rising to the occasion, as the all-time leading goal scorer Kylian Mbappe departs from the team.
In the last year of his seven-year stint at PSG, the Spaniard coached Mbappe, during which the prolific striker netted a record 256 goals and played a key role in clinching 15 titles for the team, including six league trophies.
Enrique emphasized that the upcoming off-season will be crucial for preparing his squad to meet the demands of the next season, highlighting that no player can directly fill the void left by the departure of the French captain, who is strongly rumored to be heading to Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid.
“I have had the good fortune to coach Kylian this season, it has been a difficult one for him after seven years at his club and all that he has achieved, it is difficult to say goodbye,” Enrique told a news conference.
“There is no substitute for Mbappe, we cannot replace him, we will do it through the team and four, five or six signings we can make. Kylian’s replacement will be the team that, along with the fans and our ambition, will try to win everything in the following seasons.”
Despite investing heavily in the squad, PSG’s primary challenge continues to be conquering the Champions League and securing their first European title. This pursuit intensified after their recent semi-final defeat to Borussia Dortmund, extending their wait for European glory.
“A big challenge for any player who wants to come is that we want to make history and this club will win the Champions League sooner or later, it is difficult, but this team will do it,” Enrique said.
“This season is coming to an end, but negotiations are already starting and there are possibilities to improve the squad, it is still an impressive project.”
“A big club is very demanding, the players need to adapt. There is no such thing as a holiday in top-level football.”
