Al Nassr Signs Brazilian Winger Angelo Gabriel From Chelsea

Chelsea have sold Brazilian winger, Angelo Gabriel, who never made a competitive appearance for the club, to Saudi Arabia for a £6million profit.

The Premier League club signed Angelo from Santos for approximately £13 million in July 2023 and subsequently loaned him to Strasbourg, the French team bought by Chelsea’s owners last year.

Angelo went on to make 24 appearances for Strasbourg in all competitions last season but failed to score a single goal for the French side.

The 19-year-old has now been transferred Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr in a deal valued at approximately £19 million. He will join Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane at his new team.

Angelo’s departure means that Chelsea have generated around £175million through sales in this summer window, including the exits of Ian Maatsen to Aston Villa (£37.5million), Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid (£34 million) and Romelu Lukaku to Napoli (£30million).

The club spent around £208million on new signings during the window, including £54 million on Wolves winger, Pedro Neto and £42million on Atletico forward, Joao Felix.

Chelsea also did significant transactions with Saudi clubs during the summer transfer window of 2023, as three of their players left Stamford Bridge to join the Saudi League.

It was reported last year that Chelsea had sold defender Kalidou Koulibaly to Al Hilal for £34million, while goalkeeper Edouard Mendy joined Al Ahli for £16million, with both deals helping Chelsea to avoid financial trouble.

N’Golo Kante also moved to Saudi Arabia from Chelsea, joining Al Ittihad as a free agent.

In March, reports emerged that Chelsea chairman, Todd Boehly had traveled to Saudi Arabia, where he is to have met with the country’s sports minister and the director football for the Saudi Pro League.
