Arsenal Edge Brighton, Move Top Of EPL
Arsenal delivered a masterclass performance to secure a resounding 3-0 victory over Brighton, reclaiming their position at the top of the Premier League table.
The match kicked off with a flurry of early chances, as Gabriel Magalhães came agonizingly close to opening the scoring with a header from Martin Ødegaard’s inviting free-kick.
Brighton, eager to make their mark, saw Julio Enciso squander a golden opportunity on the counter, blazing his effort over the bar. However, it was Arsenal who seized control of the game, with Bukayo Saka making a significant impact on his return to the starting lineup. Saka’s incisive play saw him curl a shot wide before setting up Gabriel Jesus, whose goal-bound effort was expertly prevented by’ Brighton’s goalkeeper, Bart Verbruggen.
The breakthrough for Arsenal came in the 33rd minute when Gabriel Jesus was brought down in the box by’ Tariq Lamptey, leading to a penalty that Saka calmly dispatched into the bottom corner, scoring his 14th league goal of the season. The visitors maintained their lead heading into halftime, thanks in part to a spectacular acrobatic save from David Raya to deny Enciso’s long-range strike.
Brighton started the second half brightly, with Enciso once again testing Raya early on. However, Arsenal soon imposed their authority on the game, with Jesus heading wide from Kai Havertz’s exquisite cross before Havertz himself doubled the Gunners’ advantage by’ tapping in a pinpoint pass from Jorginho.
Trossard showcased his clinical finishing by’ chipping the ball over the goalkeeper after a sublime through ball from Havertz.
Arsenal’s impressive win sees them now leading the Premier League table by just one point over both Liverpool & Manchester City. However, their position at the top is hanging in balance as they could be overtaken if Liverpool secures a victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
