Sevilla was the first team to advance, defeating Getafe 3-1. Shortly after, Athletic Club secured their spot with a 2-0 victory over Alavés, another Basque side. Mallorca also made it through with a narrow 1-0 win against Tenerife, one of the lower league teams.
Celta continued the trend of away victories with a convincing 3-0 win against Valencia on Wednesday. Real Sociedad also emerged victorious, defeating Osasuna 2-0. Meanwhile, Girona, the league leaders, maintained their hopes of achieving an extraordinary double by defeating Rayo Vallecano 3-1.
