Barcelona Beats Unionistas 3-1, Progresses To Next Round Of Copa del Rey

Spanish giants, Barcelona defeated Unionistas on Thursday evening in their Copa del Rey clash.

Despite falling behind in the initial period, Barca managed to secure a spot in the last eight with goals from Ferran Torres, Jules Kounde, and Alejandro Balde.

Barcelona’s victory over Unionistas de Salamanca secures their place among the eight teams that will participate in the draw for the Copa del Rey quarter-finals.

Sportxparte reports that the draw will take place on Friday, January 19, at 1 pm CET. The potential opponents for Barcelona are Sevilla, Athletic Club, Mallorca, Celta, Real Sociedad, Girona, and either Real Madrid or Atlético Madrid, depending on the outcome of their match in the round of 16.

Sevilla was the first team to advance, defeating Getafe 3-1. Shortly after, Athletic Club secured their spot with a 2-0 victory over Alavés, another Basque side. Mallorca also made it through with a narrow 1-0 win against Tenerife, one of the lower league teams.

Celta continued the trend of away victories with a convincing 3-0 win against Valencia on Wednesday. Real Sociedad also emerged victorious, defeating Osasuna 2-0. Meanwhile, Girona, the league leaders, maintained their hopes of achieving an extraordinary double by defeating Rayo Vallecano 3-1.
