Erling Haaland Breaks Premier League Record Against Brentford
Erling Haaland has made the best start by a striker in Premier League history. After scoring back-to-back hat tricks in his last two games, the Manchester City star returned from the international break with a brace against Brentford.
The opening goal arrived in the 19th minute, courtesy of a smooth assist from Kevin Bruyne, giving the lead at home. Haaland quickly doubled City’s advantage in the 32nd minute, this time with an assist from goalkeeper Ederson.
With this brace, Haaland became the first player in Premier League history to score more than nine goals in just the first four matches of the season.
Although Haaland didn’t manage to achieve a record-breaking third consecutive hat-trick, he did make history with the best start to a season. Previously, Wayne Rooney held the record for the most goals scored in the first four League games, scoring eight in the 2011/12 season.
In his first season in the Premier League, Haaland scored six goals in his first four games. A year later, the Norwegian scored six again. The patterns were the same too. Haaland scored two goals in the first game, blanked in the second, one in the third, and a hat-trick in the fourth.
This season though? This season, Haaland scored one goal in his first game before back-to-back hat-tricks and then a brace.
This performance came after doubts about his availability for the game, as Haaland had recently lost a close family friend, Ivar Eggia.
However, the Norwegian striker paid tribute to someone he considered an “uncle” by scoring twice in his honor, breaking yet another Premier League record with Manchester City.
