Ex-Arsenal Star, Adebayor Speaks On Osimhen Playing In Premier League

Victor Osimhen has everything needed to succeed in the Premier League, according to former Arsenal and Manchester City striker, Emmanuel Adebayor.

After taking home the African Footballer of the Year title in December of last year, the Napoli striker has emerged as one of the world’s most sought-after players.

The 25-year-old renewed his contract with Napoli, the Italian champions, last month, but it won’t likely deter suitors like Arsenal and Chelsea, who are still very interested in his talents.

Former Togo captain Adebayor, however, said that Osimhen  “Has the right attitude, mentality, and determination to excel there (in England).”

He said, “I’m praying for him to move to the Premier League and show what he’s capable of.

Adebayor believes that the moment has come for the international player from Nigeria to relocate to England and follow in the footsteps of the legendary African strikers of the past.

He said, “The Premier League is the toughest and best league in the world.

“Osimhen has shown and done it already in Italy. I think it is the right time for him to move to England and replace his idol (Didier) Drogba and do beautiful things.”

Sportxparte recalls that during a ten-year Premier League career that started with Arsenal in 2006 and included stops at Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Crystal Palace, Adebayor scored 97 goals in 241 matches.

Retiring in March of last year, he remarked that African players had a great experience during his tenure in the English Premier League.

Adebayor said, “I remember very well when I was there; we had Didier Drogba in Chelsea, myself in Tottenham or Arsenal, and Yakubu was also there, before we then had Samuel Eto’o join us at some point with Chelsea and Everton.

“But you know football has its own time; people come and go.”

Osimhen is currently with the international squad, hoping to guide the Super Eagles to an unprecedented fourth Africa Cup of Nations championship in Ivory Coast.
