Italian football icon Gigi Riva sadly passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the age of 79.
Renowned as Italy’s top goalscorer of all time, Riva netted an impressive 35 goals in 42 matches for the national team, solidifying his status as one of the greatest strikers in history.
Born in Legnano, Italy, in 1944, Riva embarked on his professional journey with Legnano in 1962.
However, it was his move to Cagliari in 1963 that defined his illustrious club career. During his time with Cagliari, he clinched the Serie A title in 1970, marking the club’s sole league championship triumph to date.
Riva’s prowess as a goalscorer was unmatched, renowned for his thunderous shots and adeptness in finishing with both feet. Additionally, he possessed exceptional dribbling and passing skills, making him a complete striker in every aspect.
