Jose Mourinho Names Four Top Favourite Teams To Win Euro 2024 Trophy
Fenerbahce’s manager, Jose Mourinho, has identified four teams as the top contenders to win the upcoming 2024 European Championship.
In his view, Mourinho noted these teams include England, Portugal, Germany, and France.
It is worth noting that bookmakers consider England one of the favourites for the Euro 2024 title.
While Mourinho acknowledges the validity of this prediction, he also anticipates strong competition from Portugal, France, and Spain in the quest for the trophy.
“I don’t want to say Portugal are the best team, but Spain, France, England, Germany are not better.
“If there is a surprise, I will be surprised! France and Germany always do well, Portugal and England are better than ever. These four teams,” Mourinho told Goal during a recent interview.
With the 2024 EURO tournament looming, there’s a palpable buzz in the air alongside a healthy dose of anxiety.
National team coaches are likely sweating over the fitness of key players.
Sportxparte understands that a single injury during a crucial domestic league match can derail a team’s entire EURO campaign.
Players who were on fire during qualifiers might be experiencing a dip in form. Can they rediscover their magic touch on the big stage?
The draw can pit powerhouses against each other in the group stage, meaning some talented teams might not even make it out of the group.
Also, balancing a youthful, energetic squad with experienced veterans is a constant struggle. Will inexperience cost a team, or will youthful exuberance be the key to success? These are great concerns for teams ahead of the Euro 2024.
The weight of expectations can be immense on national team managers. One wrong decision or a poor run of form can see them become the target of fans’ frustrations.
These are just some of the anxieties swirling around ahead of EURO 2024. But amidst the worries, there’s also the thrill of anticipation.
In other news, Tottenham‘s attacking midfielder, James Maddison and his Liverpool counterpart, Curtis Jones, will not be part of England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024.
Sportxparte reports that the duo were initially included in England national team manager, Gareth Southgate‘s 33-man provisional squad but have now left the training camp as they were informed that they did not make the final selection.
The official squad of 26 players must be named by Friday’s deadline, right after England’s friendly match against Finland at Wembley.
The European Championship kicks off in Germany on June 14, and England is considered one of the favourites as they aim to win their first major men’s trophy in 58 years.
Maddison, 27, came on as a substitute in the 61st minute during Monday’s friendly victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
However, Maddison, whose performance declined for Tottenham after a strong start to the Premier League season, is among the seven players who will not be travelling to Germany.
Maddison, who participated in the 2022 World Cup with England, has earned seven caps but faced tough competition in his position from players like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Jack Grealish, and Bukayo Saka.
In addition to Maddison and Jones, Liverpool’s uncapped defender Jarell Quansah is also likely to miss out on a spot in the Euro squad.
On the other hand, Manchester United’s defender Luke Shaw has returned to training after a lengthy muscle injury, increasing his chances of being selected for the England squad.
The 28-year-old left-back, who scored against Italy in the 2021 final defeat, has been sidelined since February and made only 15 appearances for United in all competitions last season.
