Leonardo Bonucci played his last professional football career on Sunday, as Fenerbahce fell short of claiming the Turkish championship.

With 121 appearances for Italy, Bonucci has decided to retire from the sport, marking the end of his illustrious journey.

It has been confirmed that Bonucci has retired from professional football and shared a brief video on social media to commemorate this momentous occasion.

He bid farewell to the football pitch in Turkey, where he relocated in January to play for Fenerbahce. Bonucci participated in 13 matches for the Istanbul-based club.

Interestingly, Fenerbahce and Union Berlin were the only two non-Italian clubs Bonucci played for during his career.

Starting this season with Union Berlin, Bonucci, a product of Inter Milan’s academy, struggled to break into the Nerazzurri’s first team. Following stints at Treviso, Pisa, Genoa, and Bari, he eventually drew the attention of Juventus.

Upon his arrival in Turin in 2010, Bonucci teamed up with Giorgio Chiellini to form a formidable partnership that contributed to Juventus securing nine league titles, five Italian Cups, and five Super Cups. Their successful 12-year collaboration was briefly interrupted by a stint at AC Milan during the 2017/18 season.

With 121 appearances for the Italian national team, Bonucci participated in two World Cups (2010 and 2014) and three European Championships (2012, 2016, and 2020). He played a crucial role in Italy’s triumphant campaign at Wembley, where they emerged victorious in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.
