Man United Vs Tottenham: Ten Hag Gives Update On Martinez, Casemiro, Shaw Returns To Squad
In the lead-up to Sunday’s Premier League match at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has announced a treble boost.
Although Manchester United’s 2-1 league loss against Nottingham Forest to close 2023 on a depressing note left them just nine points off of the Champions League positions.
In advance of the match, Ten Hag has stated that he would have three players returning in the lineup. The club may cut the deficit if they defeat Spurs. Christian Eriksen and Amad Diallo lost their team’s 2-0 FA Cup third-round victory at Wigan Athletic due to illness. They should play the North London club again when they return.
Additionally, the manager disclosed that Antony is expected to return to the matchday roster following his resolution of a minor adductor issue that prevented him from playing on Monday at the DW Stadium.
He said: “I don’t know. What do you expect? We have had a lot of injuries, so this week in training, the last couple of days, Licha Martinez training, Casemiro training, Luke Shaw training, so there are players returning, they are coming in for selection for Sunday.”
He also said: “Antony, yeah. Eriksen was ill in the week, he will return. Antony will return. Amad will return. We have more choice in this moment in the squad to put out a starting XI and create a bench that is stronger.”
With nine losses in the first half of the premier league season, the Red Devils had a disappointing start. Despite this nine-point disadvantage, they are still in the running for the top four.
This weekend, the team has to beat Ange Postecoglou’s team to get back to winning ways. With a win, they may put further pressure on Arsenal, who are now in fourth position.
With just one point after their last three matches, the Gunners are experiencing a terrible run of play.
Eriksen, Antony, and Amad’s comeback should help United in the interim. Eriksen might be selected directly into the starting lineup, replacing Scott McTominay at number eight.
On the other hand, Antony and Amad might only get bench time. Alejandro Garnacho has become a reliable right-winger by contributing significantly to goals.
