The Netherlands showed incredible determination to overcome a one-goal deficit and defeat Turkey 2-1 at the Olympiastadion (Berlin).

The match unfolded with Turkey missing key player Merih Demiral due to a two-match ban, setting the stage for an intense showdown between the two sides.

Turkey, known for their tenacity, started strong by soaking up early Dutch pressure with a physical strategy.

Despite being considered underdogs, they adopted an assertive approach, which paid off when teenage sensation Arda Guler set up Samet Akaydin for a crucial goal in the 35th minute, giving Turkey a lead going into halftime.

The Dutch team returned from the break with renewed determination. In a back-and-forth battle, Turkey came close to extending their lead through ambitious long-range efforts from Guler and Kenan Yildiz, testing Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

However, the momentum shifted in the 70th minute when Stefan de Vrij equalized for the Netherlands with a powerful header from a cleverly executed corner.

Building on this momentum, the Dutch completed a remarkable turnaround just six minutes later when a Mert Mulder own goal, spurred by a dangerous delivery from Denzel Dumfries, put them ahead.

As Turkey fought desperately to salvage their Euro dreams, their onslaught on the Dutch defense was valiant but ultimately unsuccessful. Verbruggen’s heroics, including a remarkable save to deny Kerem Akturkoglu, ensured the Dutch held onto their lead until the final whistle.

Koeman’s troops ultimately clawed their way to the finish line to set up a mouthwatering tie against England, ending Turkey’s memorable journey in the process.
