Real Madrid Goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois Sustains Fresh Injury

Real Madrid, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has been sidelined once again, this time due to a meniscus tear in his right knee.

The Belgian international, who was on the road to recovery from an ACL tear in his left knee last August, suffered the new injury during a training session on Tuesday. An MRI scan confirmed the extent of the damage, ruling Courtois out of action for several weeks.

This injury is a setback for me, especially after working so hard to return from my previous knee injury. I am disappointed to be facing another spell on the sidelines,” Courtois expressed in a statement following the diagnosis.

In Courtois’ absence, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin has stepped up to fill the void, earning the trust of coach Carlo Ancelotti in recent months.

Despite the injury setback, Ancelotti remains optimistic about the return of Courtois and_ Brazil defender Eder Militao, who also suffered an ACL tear last August.

“Thibaut and_ Militao have started to work with the group, completing normal training sessions. I think they will be able to make it for the La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao on March 31st, but we won’t risk anything,” Ancelotti shared during a press conference, highlighting the cautious approach to their return.

Real Madrid, currently leading the La Liga standings, are set to face Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. With Courtois sidelined, the team will rely on Lunin and_ possibly Kepa Arrizabalaga, on loan from Chelsea, to maintain their defensive solidity in these crucial fixtures.

“As a team, we are confident in our abilities to adapt to the situation and_ continue performing at a high level. We will support Thibaut in his recovery and_ ensure that the goalkeeping department remains strong in his absence,” Ancelotti emphasized the team’s unity in facing the challenges ahead.
