Shearer Criticizes Man Utd’s Antony After Goalless Draw With Liverpool
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer didn’t hold back in his criticism of Manchester United’s Antony following their 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the Premier League.
The match showcased Liverpool’s dominance with 34 shots compared to Man United’s mere six attempts at Anfield. Despite the Reds’ control, neither team managed to clinch a win, settling for a point each.
Shearer specifically targeted Antony’s performance during the game, highlighting his glaring predictability.
“On the right-hand side, you’ve got Antony, he would do my head in playing alongside him because you can predict 99.9% of the time he’s cutting inside on that left foot,” Shearer expressed his frustration on Match of the Day.
He pointed out the repercussions of this predictability, stating, “Not only do the defenders anticipate it, enabling them to prepare themselves, but on the rare occasion he does venture to the right, it might pose more challenges. However, for a center-forward, this routine makes it exceedingly tough.”
Antony, who arrived at Man United from Ajax for a whopping £85 million, has struggled to validate his hefty price tag. His track record includes a modest eight goals and three assists in 62 appearances for the Red Devils since joining last year.
In the eyes of Shearer and many observers, Antony’s lack of variety in his game play has become a significant concern, potentially hindering Manchester United’s attacking prowess.
