Manchester United Reports Loss Despite Revenue Forecast Upgrade
Manchester United has raised its annual revenue and core profit forecast for the year ending in June, boosted by a third-place Premier League finish and strong merchandise sales.
However, the club still reported a net loss of £11.8 million for the fiscal third quarter. The deficit widened compared to the same period last year.
Declining sponsorship income contributed significantly to the financial setback. Additionally, weaker ticket sales added further pressure to the quarter’s results.
Potential increase
The club’s return to the Champions League is expected to significantly increase revenue next fiscal year through lucrative broadcast income and fresh sponsorship deals.
However, sponsorship revenue for the most recent quarter fell by 9.4%. This decline highlights the financial challenges United is still working to stabilise despite improved on-pitch performance.
”We feel very positive about the club’s progress. This season and the continuing positive impact of our business transformation initiatives,” CEO Omar Berrada said in a statement.
Manchester United’s decided to sack head coach Ruben Amorim and his staff. Despite 18 months remaining on his contract, he cost the club £16.7 million according to their latest financial statement.
Amorim was dismissed in January following a difficult run of results. His successor, Michael Carrick, quickly stabilised the team and ultimately guided United to a third-place finish in the Premier League.
That improvement also secured Champions League qualification for next season.
How The Losses Came About
Amorim’s payout adds to a growing list of costly managerial departures at Old Trafford. Earlier figures released in February 2025 showed that parting ways with Erik ten Hag and his staff had cost the club £14.5 million.
Michael Carrick’s appointment as Manchester United’s permanent manager on a two-year deal already appears to be paying off.
His arrival followed Ruben Amorim’s disastrous campaign, which saw United finish 15th in 2025 their worst league position since relegation in 1974.
Carrick’s impact has steadied the club and restored competitiveness after a historically poor season.
