Sporting CP Ruben Amorim Explains Decision To Join Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has admitted a desire to leave his comfort zone was behind his decision to swap Sporting CP for Manchester United.
The Portuguese coach has reached an agreement to take over at Old Trafford, replacing Erik ten Hag. Although the announcement has yet to be made, Amorim is focused on Sporting’s upcoming match against Estrela on Friday.
While he stopped short of confirming his departure or his move to United, Amorim confessed he is ready to test himself at a higher level in unfamiliar surroundings.
“I think all coaches need that,” he explained. “I think that in everyone’s life, and in yours [journalists] too, there are times when we are doing very well in life but we are missing something or we want something or to prove something.
“And we have to take a step forward in things that destabilize us, that we don’t know if it will work or not if we are or are not ruining what is good about us, but I think everyone feels that.
“You and coaches go through the same thing in your life.”
As part of the agreement between United and Sporting, Amorim will stay with the Portuguese club until the November international break, enabling him to oversee an exciting Champions League match against Manchester City.
